Mass Shooting at Club Q LGBTQ Nightclub

Statement from Executive Director and Board of Directors

Late last night, Colorado Springs Police Department responded to a shooting at Colorado Springs’ Club Q. Although motives for the attack are unannounced, this is a clear threat to our community.

Reminiscent of the horrible Orlando Pulse massacre just 6 years ago, it’s extremely disheartening that in spaces that we, the LGBTQ+ community, are supposed to feel safe and free are the same spaces our lives come under attack due to hatred and bigotry. Hatred will not win!

It’s impossible to not draw the connection between attacks such as these on the LGBTQ+ Community and the extreme anti-LGBTQ+ rhetoric including almost 300 anti-LGBTQ bills introduced this year alone throughout the U.S. As a people we must unite and standup against hate. Standup against those in position of influence and power that spew hate, regardless of your political, religious, or social background and views. Everyone deserves to live a life free of the fear of persecution for simply being who they are.

Our hearts, thoughts, and prayers go out to the families, friends, and loved ones of those whose lives were lost and impacted by this tragic event.
